Detroit, the powertrain brand of Daimler Truck in North America, has released preliminary details of its new Gen 6 heavy-duty portfolio.
Comprising the DD13, DD15 and DD16, the engines will be available for all heavy-duty Freightliner and Western Star trucks.
“With our Gen 6 engines, we have a successor that builds on years of proven performance to be prepared for ’27 and beyond,” said David Carson, senior vice president of Sales and Marketing at Daimler Truck North America.
The new Detroit Gen 6 engines ‘refine’ the designs of the previous generation (Gen 5, introduced in 2021), with the goal of meeting changes to emissions regulations.
All Detroit engines are assembled at the plant in Redford, Michigan. The location is also home to the R&D center of Daimler Truck North America.
Total annual output of the Gen 6 engines is expected to reach around 200,000 units.
According to Detroit, it has delivered about 1.2 million HD engines since the Gen 2 engines were introduced in 2010.
The Gen 6 DD13 and DD15 will be available from January, 2027. The Gen 6 DD16 will follow in January 2028.
