Danfoss offers cam lobe motor for rollers
30 July 2025
Danfoss Power Solutions has launched the Thorx CLM 5 C cam lobe motor, a hydraulic motor designed for drum drives on road rollers and other compaction equipment. With a maximum displacement of 545 cc, it is suited for compaction machinery up to 3.5 tons.

According to the company, the new motor exhibits total efficiency of 92%, reducing heat generation and extending the service life of components such as seals and bearings.
Two strong taper roller bearings are designed to prevent shaft deflection and thus eliminate hydraulic oil leakage at the shaft seal, said Danfoss. This arrangement is designed to withstand higher loads to enable longer lifetime.
With 12 pistons and nine lobes, the motor’s rotary group has a constant number of pistons under pressure, which the company said reduces speed ripple during low-speed operation of the machine by up to 90%. The result is better road finishing and a smoother road surface, Danfoss added.
Like other motors in the Thorx family, the CLM 5 C has an integral multi-disc parking brake situated at the center of the motor to maintain a compact envelope. A mechanical brake release simplifies brake disengagement for towing, with the tool conveniently located within the motor casing.
The CLM 5 C motor is interchangeable with other drum drive cam lobe motors, which Danfoss said simplifies sourcing and replacement. It has the same approximate dimensions and shape as motors commonly deployed on drum drives, as well as a hollow shaft that enables an optional through-drive.
