Darling, Chick-fil-A, team up to produce renewable transportation fuel

Darling Ingredients, a specialist in reprocessing food waste into sustainable energy, has been selected by North American restaurant chain Chick-fil-A to convert its used cooking oil into renewable transportation fuel.
The Darling Ingredients’ service brand Dar Pro will collect the cooking oil from all restaurants in the US and Canada.

Founded in Atlanta, Georgia in 1967, Chick-fil-A operates about 2700 stores across 47 states, Washington DC and Canada.
Based in Irvine, Texas, Darling Ingredients specialises in turning waste into renewable energy. In 2001, the company became the first producer of biodiesel from animal fats and cooking oil in Canada. In 2013 the company, in partnership with Valero Energy, constructed what is reported to be North America’s largest facility for converting used cooking oils and distiller oils into renewable diesel.
The company operates 250 plants in 17 countries, repurposing a reported 10% of meat industry waste into green energy, fertilizer and animal protein.
