EIMA 2024: FPT highlights sustainable solutions, new engine

Updated 11/7/2024

FPT Industrial, part of the Iveco Group, is showing products in both the internal combustion engines (ICE) and ePowertrain segments at EIMA International, taking place Nov. 6-10 in Bolgna, Italy. Solutions on display in the company’s carbon-neutral booth include compact engines for specialized equipment, natural gas-fueled solutions, new industrial power units and ePowertrain products.

The company’s ICEs can adopt variable-geometry and two-stage turbochargers, high-pressure common rail injection, aftertreatment systems and more, depending on the application requirements.

During the show, the company unveiled the R38, its new 3.8 L, four-cylinder, turbocharged G-drive engine - with cooling pack and filters already installed - targeted to unregulated applications. It covers the 50- and 60-kVA outputs in the power generation lineup and 55- and 65-kW outputs in the industrial power unit version.

The engine features a robust mechanical injection system, while the single-side servicing facilitates and speeds up maintenance activities. For the power generation version, the R38 is switchable from 1,500 rpm to 1,800 rpm to minimize OEMs’ stock requirements, FPT Industrial said, and it is suitable for a range of applications, from stationary backup to mobile prime power.

Other models featured at EIMA include:

  • F28 Stage V ultra-compact 2 L multi-fuel engine in the 55-kW category with optimized layout suited to orchard and vineyard tractors;
  • N45 four-cylinder engine with Hi-eSCR2 aftertreatment technology and available in either a structural or non-structural design;
  • 199-kW N67 six-cylinder 6.7 L natural gas engine featuring a high-energy ignition system with ion-sensing knock detection, stoichiometric technology, multi-point injection and proprietary model-based engine emissions control with three-way catalytic converter;
  • 75-kW/416-Nm, Stage V and Tier 4 Final-compliant F28 Power Unit engine, offering a complete pre-assembled solution for both stationary and semi-stationary applications.

FPT Industrial’s advanced energy storage solutions and battery management systems are designed for a range of commercial vehicle applications. An ePropulsion lineup covers applications from 3.5 to 49 tonnes GVW. The ePowertrain products are manufactured in the carbon-neutral ePowertrain plant located in Turin, Italy, inaugurated in October 2022.

The company said its energy storage lineup is able to cope with the range of off-road operations involved in modern agriculture.

On display at EIMA is the 42-kWh eBS 42 battery pack, which is designed to provide high energy density (>170 Wh/kg), optimal stability and fast charging times and discharge rates. The modular, flexible solution utilizes NMC (Lithium Nickel Cobalt Manganese) technology. The possibility of multipack solutions allows for installation on a variety of agricultural and construction equipment, including the Case 580EV electric backhoe-loader.

Visitors to the FPT Industrial stand will also find the MyFPT world, which includes products such as the MyFPT App, the Control Room system for remotely monitoring connected engines, MyFPT Original Reman remanufactured parts and the new FPT Industrial co-branded oils developed in partnership with PLI (Petronas Lubricants International.
