First MAN Gas Generator Set Engine
11 October 2019
MAN Engines will present a new gas gen-set engine in the 500-kW class at the PowerGen International show 2019, in November in New Orleans, LA, USA.
The company said the MAN E3262 LE252 is a completely new development based on the E3262 gas engine platform launched in 2012.
The new engine is a 12-cylinder, vee-configuration, spark-ignited unit with a displacement of 25.8 L. It features twin turbochargers (Lambda >1), which MAN said provide better loading than a single turbocharged engine. The power output reaches up to 500 kW electric at both 1500 and 1800 r/min and the engine has been optimized for operation with natural gas, special gas and biogas.
The MAN E3262 LE252 reaches a mechanical efficiency of 40.1% in the natural gas variant for 50 Hz operation, and 40% with special gas. At 60 Hz, efficiencies are 37.9% and 36.4% respectively.
The optimization for various gases gives operators more flexibility, including the use of biogas fuel in tropical countries – a market on the rise, according to Günther Zibes, MAN Engines head of Power.
MAN added, the gen-set can be used for all applications without change in output, including emergency stand-by power, prime running power, and continuous operation.
The company will offer the E3262 LE252 gen-set with an enhanced standard supply package that will include a complete cooling system with front-mounted cooler, thermostats, generator, pressure fan, and mechanically-driven coolant pump.
