FMD engines for U.S. Navy’s LPD 32

Fairbanks Morse Defense (FMD), a portfolio company of Arcline Investment Management (Arcline), has been awarded a purchase order by Huntington Ingalls Industries to build and deliver four main propulsion diesel engines to power the U.S. Navy’s newest Landing Platform/Dock (LPD) ship.

Four sequentially turbocharged, 16-cylinder FMD PC 2.5 diesel engines incorporating common rail fuel injection technology will deliver over 31 MW of propulsion power.
The engines drive Bird Johnson controllable pitch propellers through Philadelphia Gear reduction gearboxes. Ship auxiliary power is provided by five Caterpillar ship service diesel generators (SSDG) rated 2500 kW apiece.

FMD previously provided engines with common rail technology for LPD 30 and LPD 31, which are part of the San Antonio class.
