FPT Industrial supplies engine for new Tata Daewoo truck: the CEN
FPT Industrial was chosen as preferred engine supplier by Tata Daewoo Commercial Vehicles for the launch of the new “the CEN”, an innovative formula of semi-medium truck designed for the domestic South Korean market.
The CEN – whose name means ‘The Strong’ in Korean and ‘Complete, Efficient, Needs’ for the rest of the world – is powered by a FPT Industrial Euro Dynamics (ED) 45 engine.
Launched in 3-, 4- and 5-ton versions, the CEN features the first eight-speed automatic gearbox in the segment, fully pneumatic brakes, pneumatic suspension seats and LED daytime running lights (DRL).
The FPT Industrial ED 45 engine is a member of the NEF engine family sold worldwide for all kind of applications – on road, off-road and marine – in about 100 000 units per year. The four-cylinder inline diesel engine is available in two versions with 137 or 152 kW (186 or 206 hp) and delivers up to 21% more power and up to 23% higher torque versus competition in South Korea, according to FPT Industrial.
It is equipped with the company’s proprietary HI-eSCR after-treatment-system, complying with Euro 6C emissions regulations, without exhaust gas recirculation (EGR).
FPT Industrial explained that the EGR-free configuration of the engine delivers a few benefits in terms of performances: for one, the engine has better breathability, aspirating only fresh air instead of very hot and dirty recirculated gas. It also has an optimized packaging with a smaller cooling circuit than a version with EGR would need, and higher reliability thanks to the whole cooling circuit operating at lower temperatures; finally, the passive-regeneration diesel particulate filter reaches up to 150 000 km service intervals.
“FPT Industrial was both honored and proud to be part of this important product launch in South Korea,” said Alessandro Del Bue, key account On-Road for FPT Industrial. “The CEN will certainly be a strong point of reference for the whole of the South Korean transport industry and its indubitable success will further consolidate our position and boost our market share in the country.”
