FPT has joined Steyr on the latter’s booth at Interforst 2026, the international trade show for forest technology in Munich, Germany. The engine manufacturer, owned by Iveco Group N.V., is exhibiting N45, a model from its NEF range. from October 15-18 at the Trade Fair Center Messe München.

“Forestry professionals require tractors that combine robustness, operator comfort, versatility and productivity. Interforst provides the ideal platform to showcase how Steyr solutions support modern forestry operations, and reinforce Steyr’s position as a trusted specialist partner for professional forestry customers,” said Jona Hormann, key account manager, Municipality and Forestry at Steyr Traktoren, which is a brand of CNH Industrial.

The reason for its presence at the forestry event is twofold, said FPT.

First, FPT is the engine supplier for the entire range of Steyr tractors on display, each shown their forestry versions.

Secondly, FPT is a partner with Steyr in the Wald Klima-Klasse Initiative (Forest Climate-Class), an environmental education initiative in Germany. The project was created in collaboration with AGDW – Die Waldeigentümer, the German national federation of forest owners. Founded in 1948 and based in Berlin, the group defends the interests of approximately 2 million owners of private, municipal and public-sector forests (which manage approximately 67% of Germany’s forests), and promotes forest care and management, often certified by standards such as the PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification).

The Wald Klima-Klasse Initiative program introduces students from the fifth grade onward to forest management through hands-on outdoor activities. Learning takes place in nature under the guidance of professional foresters. Students adopt a local patch of forest, plant trees, and help care for a small “climate forest” to see how conscious forestry works firsthand. Regional groups coordinate the actual tree-planting and field days on-site. The initiative was designed to highlight how collaboration across forestry, industry, and education can foster climate-resilient woodlands, while encouraging younger generations to get involved in responsible forest management and conservation.

“In this context, where young people are directly involved in the preservation and restoration of forest heritage, FPT and its engines powering Steyr forestry tractors play an important supporting role in the activities,” said Egle Panzella, Brand Equity and Corporate Social Responsibility manager at FPT. “They demonstrate that efficient state-of-the-art engines are capable of integrating harmoniously into a project with big goals, but which remains human in scale. Creating a shared culture of care for the environment is the ultimate goal of the project, and a mission that is particularly close to our brand.”

The NEF Series

Engineered for agricultural machinery tasks, FPT said the NEF series showcases its commitment to technological excellence. Over 2 million engines have been built since 2001 for use across a wide range of farming applications, including tractors, combine harvesters, specialty fruit equipment and windrowers.

Showcased on Steyr’s booth in its four-cylinder configuration (N45), the engine features customization possibilities to meet customer requirements. It leverages FPT’s EGR-free combustion and proprietary, patented HI-eSCR2 post-treatment system, the NEF series sets the productivity standard for mid-range uses, ensuring optimal combustion efficiency, low fuel consumption and high power density.

Dedicated forestry equipment

Visitors to the Steyr stand will also see a cross-section of the brand’s product portfolio, including the Plus, Expert CVT, Profi CVT, Impuls CVT and Cervus CVT tractors, all equipped with FPT Stage V engines ranging from 3.6 to 8.7 L. Together, the models demonstrate how the Austrian tractor brand supports forestry businesses, contractors, municipalities and landowners with solutions tailored to different operating requirements.

Three tractors will participate in the show’s action area, performing forestry tasks. A municipal-specification tractor equipped with an AI-assisted camera system developed by Mekra Lang will also be on display. The system uses AI-based vehicle and pedestrian detection to identify objects around the tractor and highlights them on the operator’s screen with clearly marked visual indicators, helping to improve situational awareness, operational efficiency and safety.

Among the key exhibits from Steyr will be a Cervus CVT demonstrating its suitability for forestry applications, including operations such as wood chipping that can benefit from its reverse-drive system. A forestry cab demonstrator will illustrate this future capability, said Steyr.
