GeoPura, Ballard launch HPU Agile-H mobile H2 power unit

GeoPura has launched its new HPU Agile-H, a lightweight, towable hydrogen power unit. According to the company, it can offer a mobile alternative to diesel power generation for short-term projects and remote locations, while also serving as a power solution in areas with limited grid access.

The HPU Agile-H units uses a Ballard hydrogen fuel cell that delivers electrical power which is stored in onboard battery packs. A single unit can deliver 80 kW of continuous power.

The battery packs can respond instantly to demand, providing stable, reliable electricity for construction sites and other uses.

GeoPura says the unit can be towed by a large pickup, SUV or panel van. Deployment can be completed in less than 20 minutes by a single technician. Multiple units can be daisy-chained for additional power.

The hydrogen fuel cell produces no CO2, NOx or particulates at point of use, improving on-site air quality. The unit also emits far less noise than a standard diesel gen set.

Andrew Cunningham, president of Ballard, said: “Hydrogen power needs to fit the way customers work. For some, that means supplying megawatts of electricity to a data center. For others, it means getting power to a temporary site quickly, then moving it on when the job is done.”

Cunningham added that Ballard will supply the hydrogen and provide the support team for deployment and care of the units.

Additionally, the HPU Agile-H units incorporate built-in safety systems with remote monitoring and control to support safe operation.

First deliveries of HPU Agile-H are set for Q1 2027.
