Growth For Compacted Graphite Iron In Engines

12 July 2018

Sweden’s SinterCast AB has announced that annualized series production reached 2.7 million engine equivalents in the second quarter of 2018, surpassing the previous record of 2.5 million engine equivalents set in the first quarter.

Following two consecutive quarters of record series production, SinterCast said year-on-year production is up 24% at the half-year point. The full-year outlook remains positive, benefitting from the anticipated start of production of a new high-volume in-line diesel engine for passenger vehicles in the third-quarter.

Sampling Cup volume also established a new all-time high in the second quarter, with 68,800 Sampling Cups being shipped to customers. During the first half of the year, 101,300 Sampling Cups were shipped, providing a year-on-year increase of 64% and putting the company solidly ahead of pace to exceed the previous full-year high of 168,800 Sampling Cups set in 2016.

“Following the start of production of a handful of new niche volume programmes in the first quarter, plus the recovery of some key high volume programmes, series production reached the new all-time high of 2.8 million Engine Equivalents in both April and June. The continued growth during the second quarter validates the gains made in the first quarter, reinforcing the current level as our new normal” said Dr. Steve Dawson, president & CEO of SinterCast.

“With two of the second quarter months at 2.8 million Engine Equivalents, the pending start of production of the high-volume in-line passenger vehicle diesel engine during the third quarter provides an exciting opportunity to reach the three million Engine Equivalent milestone before year-end.”
