Hamburg orders 350 electric Daimler buses
23 December 2024
Hamburger Hochbahn AG, which operates the underground system and much of the bus system for the city of Hamburg, Germany, has awarded Daimler Buses an order of up to 350 fully electric Mercedes-Benz eCitaro and eCitaro G city buses. Over the next five years, the new solo and articulated buses are to be delivered to the northern German city for use in public transport.

The eCitaro is based on the proven Citaro platform with a modular battery and charging and drive technology. The buses for Hamburger Hochbahn will be equipped with the NMC3 lithium-ion battery generation, designed for a high emissions-free range. Assistance systems built into the buses will include Preventive Brake Assist and Sideguard Assist.
In placing the order, Hamburger Hochbahn was said to be particularly impressed by the low total cost of ownership (TCO) and the ease of repair of the eCitaro over the entire service life of the electric buses.
By the beginning of the 2030s, Hamburger Hochbahn’s entire bus fleet will be converted to emission-free drive systems. The company relies 100% on green electricity to operate its electric bus fleet.
