Liebherr to show new electric motor at Bauma
03 February 2025

Liebherr is to unveil a new permanent magnet motor at the upcoming Bauma trade show. The fair will be held in Munich, Germany, 7-13 April.
The motor has been designed to replace hydraulic systems in off-highway machines, while offering a series of ‘advantages’ in terms of ease of installation, durability, maintenance, operational reliability and operating costs.
Liebherr’s new motor is said to further offer the same power density of a hydraulic equivalent, while overall efficiency is said to be around 94 to 96%. Hydraulic efficiency is estimated at about 50%.
In addition, the electric motor negates the need for the piping and hoses related to hydraulic systems, which in turn prevents any accidents related to burst hardware leaking fluids.

The oil-cooled motor has been developed for use both diesel and electric machines. There is also the potential to retrofit machines which currently feature hydraulic systems.
While delivering high torque in relation speed, the motor offers improved mean time between failures. This is related to the reduced number of gears. This is also reflected in the compact installation space requirement.
