Maeda and Deutz launch electric crawler crane

Premium Content

Japanese crane manufacturer Maeda unveiled the CC 1485 mini crawler crane, with an all-electric drive from drive systems specialist Deutz, at a Deutz Days trade event.

The crane has an output of 40 kilowatts

The 6 tonne capacity crane has a 360 Volt drivetrain powered by a lithium-ion battery and has an output of 40 kilowatts.

“Environmentally friendly construction sites are now a reality, not a distant dream. We are delighted to present the prototypes for an electric construction-site vehicle,” said Dr Ing. Markus Müller, Deutz chief technical officer.

“The CC 1485 is already fully functional. Our electric drive is quiet, efficient and emission free, even when used on a building site.”

Tomiaki Habasaki, executive general manager, industrial machinery headquarters at Maeda, said, “Maeda has already been in the electrified vehicle market with its small spider crane in Europe.

“We experience a strong pick-up in demand from our customers for environmentally friendly products. In order to electrify our crawler cranes, we decided on a joint development with Deutz as it is known for its technology and experience in electrified drive trains for off-highway equipment.”

Deutz and Maeda will showcase the new crane at the bauma 2022 trade fair in October. Full production of the Deutz electric drive is expected to begin in 2023.
