Rolls-Royce expands MTU remote monitoring to Italy
24 September 2026
Rolls-Royce has commissioned a new Remote Monitoring Centre (RMC) in Arcola, Italy, for vessels fitted with MTU propulsion systems and for power generation plants. It is the first RMC outside Berlin, Germany, where remote monitoring has focused on battery storage systems and microgrids, and marks the starting point for the global roll-out of the concept.

“With remote monitoring, we are evolving our customer service from merely providing support for specific issues to offering continuous support for our customers. The analysis of operational data creates transparency, helps to identify changes at an early stage and enables better planning of maintenance measures,” said Andreas Görtz, president of the Mobile & Sustainable Business Unit at Rolls-Royce Power Systems.
“With Remote Monitoring, we combine digital technologies with our many years of on-site service expertise,” added Jörn Lindstädt, senior vice president, Global Service, at Rolls-Royce Power Systems. “This enables us to create greater transparency regarding the operation of our systems, provide our customers with more targeted support and help to further increase the availability of their plants.”
The MTU Go platform enables operational data from connected systems to be made available remotely and used for monitoring purposes. Existing, compatible systems can be retrofitted to use the platform.
Should any relevant deviations be identified, specially trained staff will provide specific recommendations for action to optimize operations and plan maintenance measures. Depending on requirements, further services such as the supply of spare parts or the deployment of a service engineer can also be coordinated.
Service experts in Arcola will initially monitor marine and yacht applications. Two customers – the Italian ferry operator Liberty Lines and the Italian shipyard Overmarine – are already benefiting from the new service. Plans are also in place to further expand the digital connectivity of additional mtu systems and to extend monitoring in collaboration with Italy’s ‘Guardia di Finanza’.
Rolls-Royce said remote monitoring in Italy forms part of a broader service concept. Each regional RMC will support the customers and installations in its region and can, where necessary, call upon additional specialists in analysis and problem solving. In addition, Remote Monitoring Hubs (RMHs) will be established in future, which will provide overarching trend analysis and support the regional centers with more complex issues.
