StoreDot, VinES to collaborate on XFC cell production
21 April 2023
Fast-charging battery cell developer StoreDot has concluded a joint development agreement with VinES, part of Vingroup, the largest private business conglomerate in Vietnam.
The agreement will see the companies collaborate on joint research covering development of extreme fast charge (XFC) battery cells in preparation for mass production.
StoreDot will license and share its proprietary XFC tech and VinES will provide its development, manufacturing (including validation) and supply chain expertise.
“With the XFC technology, we believe it will offer [an] improved customer experience, provide cost savings and remove charging time anxiety entirely,” said Pham Thuy Linh, CEO of VinES.
In 2022, StoreDot released its ‘100inX’ development timeline strategy. This covers development of battery cells which can accept charge rates to achieve 100 miles of driving range in incrementally reduced timeframes.
This will see 100 miles of charge in five minutes by 2024, the same range in three minutes by 2028 and 100 miles of range in two minutes by 2032.
Cells which can deliver 100 miles of range with five minutes of charging are expected to reach production readiness in 2024.
The XFC cells feature a silicon-dominant, semi solid-state architecture. It is expected that as the cells enter series production, they will go on to feature in VinFast vehicles. Introduced in 2017, VinFast is the only national vehicle manufacturer operating in Vietnam.
