Two New Orders For Sintercast

29 January 2019

SinterCast, a Swedish supplier of process control technology for high volume production of compacted graphite iron (CGI) used in engines and powertrain components, has announced two recent orders.

Building on the successful production of CGI in an existing Scania foundry since 2013, Scania has ordered a second SinterCast process control system for its new purpose-built CGI production facility. With environmental approval secured for 90,000 tons per year of melting capacity, the foundry construction is underway and the SinterCast installation is planned for 2020. Under the terms of the agreement, SinterCast will install a System 4000 Plus process control system, with an initial order value of approximately SEK 5 million, marking the first installation commitment for the company’s fourth generation technology, due to be launched in 2019.

The System 4000 Plus contributes to the energy efficiency goals of the new foundry by automatically controlling the base treatment of the metal, conducting the metallurgical control measurement, and implementing the feedforward correction of the melt prior to casting to ensure process efficiency and to deliver consistency to the molding line.

China Shipbuilding Industry Corp. (CSIC) No. 12 Research Institute, a ferrous cast metal foundry located in Shaanxi Province, China, has entered into a technology supply agreement with SinterCast for series production of CGI industrial power components. SinterCast will install a Mini-System 3000 and wirefeeder at the CSIC No. 12 Research Institute foundry and will provide technical support to establish a CGI production process. The Mini-System 3000, which is planned to be shipped and commissioned during the second quarter of 2019, will enable CSIC No. 12 Research Institute to independently produce CGI castings for its current and prospective customers in the domestic and export industrial power markets.
