Update on electric construction machine launches

The number of electrically powered construction machines launched on the market continues to grow, with KHL estimating that 55 electric models were introduced in the second quarter of 2022.

Of the 91 new products launched in the three months, 36 were electric, which is more than a third. The new electrics included three mini excavators, more than 30 aerial platforms and one crawler crane.

KHL maintains live online databases of thousands of construction, demolition, crane and aerial platform products (see details below).

These databases are constantly updated, with 874 products/models added alone in the three-month period.

Summarising the results in four categories:

Earthmoving & Roadbuilding
Twenty-six of the new products in April to June were in this category, with eight mini excavators. Two diesel powered tandem rollers were launched this quarter.

Aerial platforms
There were 35 new machines added to the director in the three month period. With more than 90% being powered by battery. Scissor lifts, all of which were electric, represented almost two-thirds of the new aerials.

Cranes
17 new cranes were launched in April-June 2022, comprising two telescopic crawler cranes, 12 loader Cranes, and one all terrain crane. The one electric crane launched this quarter was a telescopic crawler.

Demolition
Demolition attachments were the only new products/models launched in this product category during the quarter, comprising breakers and shears.

In addition, the databases are constantly updated. Machines that are no longer available, or superceded by new models, are removed from the listing and existing machines are updated where specifications have changed. In the April to June period, more than 2,300 entries were updated. See links to the four online directories below.
