Volvo Mining will launch on 1 January 2027 and will be hosted within Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE). The new entity will sell Volvo trucks, construction equipment and autonomous solutions to mining companies and contractors.
It will initially focus on customers in Sweden, Norway and Finland, before expanding into additional markets in phases.
Volvo said the move is intended to give the group a more coordinated approach to a mining market in which customers increasingly require equipment and technology spanning excavation, loading, hauling and transportation.
The business will have dedicated financial resources and responsibility for managing Volvo Group’s global mining product and service portfolio. It will also coordinate mining-related research projects across the group.
Melker Jernberg, president of Volvo CE, said, “Mining has been an important part of the Volvo Group for decades, but the industry’s growing significance calls for an even greater level of focus.
“With Volvo Mining as our centre of expertise, we are combining capabilities from across the Group to further enhance customer value in collaboration with our retail partners.”
Trucks, equipment and autonomy
The structure will bring together capabilities from Volvo CE, Volvo Trucks and Volvo Autonomous Solutions rather than treating their mining activities separately.
Volvo said the aim is to offer more integrated solutions as mine operators look to increase productivity and safety while reducing emissions.
Nils Jaeger, president of Volvo Autonomous Solutions, said, “By combining our proven autonomous technology and operational experience with Volvo Group’s broader expertise, portfolio and customer relationships, we can provide integrated solutions that also deliver measurable value for mining customers – improving safety, productivity and efficiency across their operations.”
Per-Erik Lindström, currently senior vice president of Volvo Trucks International, has been appointed head of Volvo Mining from 1 January 2027.
Lindström said, “As the mining industry evolves, customers are looking for partners who can help them improve productivity, strengthen safety and meet growing sustainability expectations. Our goal is to be a long-term partner in that transformation, helping customers create greater value through the combined strengths of Volvo Group.”
