Komatsu expands short tailswing wheeled excavator range
20 December 2023
Komatsu Europe has expanded upwards its range of short tailswing wheeled excavators with the launch of the PW168-11 and PW198-11 models in the 16-20t operating weight class.
The previous largest Komatsu short tailswing model was the PW160-11.
The PW168-11 is powered by a Komatsu Stage V 110kW engine and has an operating weight of between 15.8t and 18.1t, depending on configuration.
The PW198-11 also uses a Komatsu Stage V engine but providing 129kW of power. Its operating weight range is 17.4t to 19.3t.
The engines use Komatsu’s new diesel particle filters, which are replaced only after 8,000 hours of operation, enabling long, uninterrupted work. Exhaust gas treatment is fully automatic.
The two machines have rear overhangs of 1.85m (for the smaller machine) and 1.9m, which Komatsu said made them ideal for working in narrow areas or cramped construction sites.
The OEM said the two machines could be transported with a standard low-loader trailer, with a 3.1m transport height allowing for a full loaded height of less than 4.0m.
Komatsu said its wheeled loaders were increasingly being used with tiltrotators and 3D guidance systems, and the new machines were adapted for both.
It said “useful extras” included joystick steering, tool control management or trailer coupling.
