US-based Caterpillar, the world’s largest OEM, announced an expansion to its demolition excavator line with the new Cat 330 Straight Boom excavator.

The company said the new 330 was “purpose-built” to deliver high performance in low-level building demolition applications.

At an operating weight of 67,200 lbs (30.5 tonnes), the unit offers a maximum digging depth of 19.1 ft (5.8m), and the straight boom features a maximum vertical reach of 40.9 ft (12.48m).

Caterpillar noted this is eight-feet (2.45-m) higher than a standard Cat 330 excavator, which the company said assists demolishing three-storey buildings.

The unit is powered by a 275-hp (205-kW) Cat C7.1 engine, three power modes – Smart, Power and Eco – match engine, and hydraulic power, which Cat said helps reduce fuel consumption.

“Standard Cat technologies for the new 330 increase machine versatility, precision, and efficiency in demolition and excavating applications,” said the OEM.

“The excavator’s electrohydraulic system effortlessly powers through different types of materials, while standard quick coupler, medium, and high-pressure circuits allow for the use of a range of Cat demolition attachments.”

The excavator features reinforced booms, sticks, frame, and bucket cylinder guard, increasing machine durability in demanding demolition applications.

Dealer service technicians can also perform remote diagnostics and software updates on the 330.

“Remote Troubleshoot allows dealers to diagnose fault codes and machine issues without interrupting the production cycle,” said Caterpillar. “Remote Flash enables software updates to be pushed out to the machine and installed at a time convenient for the customer.”
