Cat Adds First Inverter Generator

Premium Content

11 December 2017

Caterpillar’s Home and Outdoor Power product line is being expanded with the introduction of the group’s first portable inverter generator. Cat launched the all-new Home and Outdoor Power group late in 2016 with a line of portable generator sets that now includes 10 models ranging from 3600 watts to 12,000 watts.

Now the Home and Outdoor Power group has added an inverter generator to the front end of the line.  Cat said the new Cat INV2000 was designed with consumer usability features, like an easy start switch, along with professional performance and safety features such as OSHA compliant GFCI, making it a applicable for both contractor and recreation use, as it did with the portable gen-sets. Caterpillar said it will also offer a parallel kit, enabling users to connect two INV2000 units together, to double power output.

The INV2000 produces 1800 watts running and 2250 watts starting.  The new generator also has, less than 3 percent total harmonic distortion, Cat said, and noise levels are 52 to 61 dB, depending on load.

The INV2000 weighs 49 lbs. (22.2 kg) and  has the easy-start switch with integrated choke, multiple outlets and operational indicator lights, which are situated centrally on the front facing panel.  The LED illumination of the control panel makes night operation especially convenient, Cat said.

Along with two GFCI 120V 20A outlets, this model has two built-in USB ports for charging sensitive electronics such as phones, tablets and Bluetooth speakers. The unit also features a 12V battery charging outlet, along with a cable, for charging of automotive style batteries.

The INV2000 is built with a  79.7 cc overhead valve (OHV) Rato Power-built gasoline engine.  The unit features an Engine Smart Control mode that adjusts the power output to automatically control fuel consumption and noise based on load, giving users 6 hours of continuous run time on one tank of fuel (at 50 percent load).

On the service and maintenance side, the INV2000 design includes dual access doors  on the side of the inverter to provide access for basic maintenance such as oil changes, air filter changes and carburetor draining. The custom oil fill design with a threaded oil funnel enables dripless oil filling and draining, Cat said.

The INV2000 will become available in CSA, CARB and EPA models for purchase mid-December 2017 at select retailers throughout the United States and Canada. Like all other generator models in the Home & Outdoor Power line up, the Cat INV2000 is covered by a full 3-year warranty.
