China Shipbuilding Industry Corp. (CSIC) No. 12 Research Institute, a ferrous cast metal foundry has entered into a technology supply agreement with the Swedish process control specialist SinterCast for series production of Compacted Graphite Iron (CGI) industrial power components.

Under the terms of the agreement, SinterCast will install a Mini-System 3000 and wirefeeder at the CSIC No. 12 Research Institute foundry and will provide technical support to establish a robust CGI production process. The Mini-System 3000, which is planned to be shipped and commissioned during the second quarter of 2019, will enable CSIC No. 12 Research Institute to independently produce high quality CGI castings for its current and prospective customers in the domestic and export industrial power markets.

“Currently accounting for approximately 10% of our total production, the industrial power market remains an important growth opportunity for SinterCast” said Dr. Steve Dawson, president and CEO of SinterCast. “The CSIC installation further expands our industrial power production base, providing more production capacity and more sourcing options for global OEMs. The CSIC No. 12 Research Institute marks our 12th installation in China and our 21st installation in Asia. We are pleased that our longstanding support of CGI development in Asia, combined with our commitment to local commercial and technical support, has led to the CSIC No. 12 Research Institute decision to adopt our technology.”
