Daimler Truck has revealed that it will use the Siemens Simcenter STAR-CCM+ software to support development of next-generation, CO2-neutral vehicles.

Part of Siemens’ Xcelerator portfolio, Simcenter will deliver a ‘leading-edge’ computational fluid dynamics (CFD) solution needed to transform computer-aided engineering development process into a full digital twin-driven multiphysics environment.

“We are proud to have Daimler Truck as the newest member of our ever-expanding customer family,” said Edwin Severijn, senior VP and GM, EMEA, Siemens Digital Industries Software. “Digitalization is critical to sustainable industrial innovation in the transportation sector and by providing insight into the real-world performance of products, Simcenter STAR-CCM+ can accelerate innovation for a better tomorrow.”

Daimler Truck plans to use Simcenter STAR-CCM+ to improve aerodynamic performance, while exploring and optimising e-mobility propulsion and energy management systems.

These will include battery cooling for hybrids and EVs, together with hydrogen technology.

The software will also help to support legacy combustion engine and exhaust system design to reduce CO2 emissions.

In addition, Siemens and Daimler Truck will look to train more young engineers and create high-level simulation specialists needed to maintain market leadership in the field.
