Efficient Drivetrains Inc. (EDI), Milpitas, Calif., a manufacturer of hybrid and electric vehicle drivetrain solutions, announced the expansion of its EDI PowerDrive portfolio to include additional models of all-electric drivetrains and full vehicle electrification kits for commercial vehicles spanning class 4 through 8.

The PowerDrive electric vehicle (EV) portfolio systems, an extension of the company’s existing PowerDrive plug-in hybrid (PHEV) range, are designed as electrification kits with corresponding developer support programs for vehicle manufacturers wanting to move rapidly in bringing an EV to the market, EDI said.  The PowerDrive’s modular, open architecture allows for optimization for a range of vehicle types, EDI said.

Electrification kits include a drivetrain (EDI PowerDrive), vehicle control and telematics software (EDI PowerSuite), vehicle electrification accessories, and training and support infrastructure.

Manufacturers can further customize their EV solutions with EDI’s Electric Power Export (Power2E) option which provides the capability to export power directly from the vehicle for use in disaster recovery, jobsite maintenance, tool operation, and other applications.

EDI’s optional Power2E two-way charging and power export options also allow vehicle providers to fulfill requirements for vehicle-to-grid or jobsite power export requirements.

EDI also said it broadened its patent portfolio with a number of newly issued and applied for patents covering power export, drivetrain, and software architecture innovations.

“Concurrent with expanding our product lines, we are also increasing the number of OEM platforms and market applications that we are supporting. We are excited about the accelerating growth of the electrified vehicle market, our role in addressing the cost and technology challenges, and having the opportunity to participate with our partners and customers in reducing emissions and operating costs, said Joerg Ferchau, CEO, Efficient Drivetrains, Inc.
