22 October 2019

Magirus has introduced a CNG-powered fire-fighting vehicle, the Compact class (H)LF 10. The new fire engine is the latest addition to the Magirus’ Innovative Drive Line series which focuses on the development and application of alternative drive technology to the Magirus range of fire-fighting vehicles.

The (H)LF 10 is built on the Iveco Eurocargo “Natural Power” 4×2 chassis and has a capacity of 420 liters of CNG. Power is a Fiat Powertrain Tector 6 engine which in its diesel versions, is the standard engine for the Eurocargo chassis. In the Eurocargo Natural Power delivery truck, the 6L CNG Tector 6 has a “super-eco” 210 hp version. As a CNG version, the engine also has redesigned ignition coils, blow-by valve, pistons and rings. Standard CNG rating in the cargo trucks is 204 hp and maximum torque of 750 Nm. It is compliant with Euro VI step C emission requirements,.

The vehicle has a range of up to 300 kilometers or a pump operation of up to four hours. This first CNG-powered fire engine, unveiled in Ulm, Germany is now in production.

Magirus said the CNG installation conforms to the latest and most stringent safety guidelines with the natural gas engine offering significant benefits in terms of reducing both NOx and CO2 emissions. The interior design of the fire engine reinforces its sustainable credentials with additional heating for the crew compartment powered by natural gas, a hydrogen generator together with battery-powered fans and rescue devices.

The (H)LF gas-powered fire engine from Magirus, the firefighting brand of CNH Industrial N.V., represents the next step in the implementation of the what Magirus said is long-term strategy to produce a comprehensive range of reliable, environmentally friendly fire-fighting vehicles – a strategy which had its first launch in 2018 with the manufacture of the first fully electric Magirus fire engine.
