Mercedes-Benz Energy to deliver second-life battery packs
04 April 2022
BatteryLoop and Mercedes-Benz Energy have signed an agreement which will see the OEM supply new and second-use battery modules, DC systems and related engineering to the energy storage solutions (ESS) provider.
The battery packs will be used in the BLESS storage system product range.
“This means that we can offer our state-of-the-art energy storage solutions BLESS built on Mercedes-Benz Energy’s high-quality products. The market for large energy storage systems is increasing with the change to renewable energy production. Meeting this business opportunity, together with Mercedes-Benz Energy, is very encouraging,” said Rasmus Bergstrom, CEO, BatteryLoop.
The first delivery is said to cover a 2 MWh system (total power 3MW), which will be received in 2022. The storage units will support the electricity grid and remove bottlenecks to allow power delivery when required.
Bergstrom further added that based on an environmental lifecycle analysis, the use of second-use batteries in a 3 MW storage system will cut 1000 tonnes of CO2 emissions.
“With BatteryLoop, we have a partner that has shown deep knowledge in the ESS market and we are convinced that our products will play an important role in their markets,” said Gordon Gassmann, CEO, Mercedes-Benz Energy.
