Mitsubishi Name Changes On Sept. 1

Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems, Ltd. (MHPS), which announced it would change its name to Mitsubishi Power on April 24, said the new name will go into effect Sept. 1.

“Since the establishment of the company, we have strengthened our technological capabilities to produce products with high quality and reliability, comprehensive engineering capabilities to coordinate projects in various regions of the world, and detailed sales and service capabilities to meet the expectations of customers and society,” the company said in a news release. “In addition, we have promoted global business development.

“In the future, as a core operating company of the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Group, under the new company name, we will provide energy solutions that are environmentally friendly, economical, and reliable in the power generation industry based on the thermal power generation and environmental technologies we have cultivated so far. We will contribute to the realization of a sustainable decarbonized society with world-leading power generation technology, and will work to solve various global social issues.”

The company, headquartered in Yokohama, Japan, is a joint venture formed in February 2014 by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. and Hitachi, Ltd. integrating their operations in thermal power generation systems and other related businesses. MHPS today ranks among the world’s leading suppliers of equipment and services to the power generation market, backed by 100 billion yen in capital and approximately 20 000 employees worldwide. The company’s products include gas turbine combined-cycle and integrated coal gasification combined-cycle power plants, gas/coal/oil-fired (steam) power plants, boilers, generators, gas and steam turbines, geothermal power plants, AQCS (air quality control systems), power plant peripheral equipment and solid-oxide fuel cells (SOFC).
