Opra Names van Riet CEO
08 October 2018

OPRA Turbines said Juha van Riet has assumed the role of chief executive officer and reports to the company’s Supervisory Board.
van Riet holds a Master of Science degree in Electromechanical Engineering from the University of Ghent and a postgraduate degree in Business Administration from the University of Leuven. Previously having worked with Siemens, Woodward and Stork, van Riet has more than 20 years of experience in commercial and business leadership roles as a service/solution provider and key system supplier to the energy, oil & gas and process industry sector.
“My deep respect goes out to the Mowill family, who single-handed have built this company in the nineties,” van Riet said. “They have succeeded to attract the in-house competence and build the supply chain required to optimize a strong gas turbine design and turn it into an installed base of more than a hundred machines. After the acquisition by Energas in 2017, OPRA has now entered a new era with increased focus on operational excellence and a sustainable, global commercial and service structure. I am very excited to contribute to this transition and look forward to working together with a highly competent, diverse and dynamic team.
“OPRA’s OP16 gas turbine has an unmatched value proposition in distributed energy applications such as flare gas-to-power, waste-to-power and combined heat and power (CHP). As a young company and an outsider in the market, OPRA is well positioned to extend its market share and has the potential to become the leader in the 1-2 MW gas turbine segment. OPRA is focusing on applications that will continue to be part of the future energy landscape and structurally contribute to a better environment.”
