Power For A New Endeavor

Wärtsilä announced it will supply the main engines for a new expedition megayacht owned by Genting Hong Kong. There is an option for an additional two vessels in the Endeavor class series, which will be built at the MV Werften yards in Germany, which are owned by Genting.

The new vessel is said to be the world’s largest expedition megayacht with ice class certification, making it able to operate in polar region waters. Passenger comfort and operational reliability were cited as being major considerations for the equipment selected.

“We have enjoyed a good relationship with Wärtsilä for a number of years and we know and trust their products,” said Axel Rothe, vice president, Procurement and Logistics, MV Werften. “The successful development of this ship is due to good cooperation and communication between all the project partners.”

Four six-cylinder Wärtsilä 32 marine diesel engines will provide electrical power for the vessel. The engines have bore and stroke dimensions of 320 x 400 mm and are rated 3480 kW each. The engines will be

combined with the Wärtsilä NOx Reducer (NOR) system, making it fully compliant with the IMO Tier 3 exhaust emission regulations set out in Annex 6 of the MARPOL 73/78 convention, Wärtsilä said. The equipment is scheduled to be delivered to the yard in 2018.

Wärtsilä said it has supplied more than 30 Wärtsilä 32 engines for eight vessels built by the MV Werften yards and has also delivered the majority of the four-stroke engines, both main and auxiliary engines, installed by the yard during the past 10 years.
