Rolls-Royce launches new MTU engine in China
08 August 2025
Rolls-Royce Power Systems announced it has completed the production of the new mtu Series 2000 G06 engine in China, with the first batch to be delivered to customers in the near future. The new engine is manufactured at MTU Yuchai Power (MYP), a joint venture (JV) between Rolls-Royce and Chinese engine manufacturer Guangxi Yuchai Machinery Co. Ltd (Yuchai Diesel), in its Suzhou facility.

The announcement marks a key milestone in the implementation of Rolls-Royce’s localization strategy in China, the company stated. Rolls-Royce Power Systems and Yuchai signed a cooperation agreement in 2014 to establish a JV for engine production. In 2024, the JV’s business scope was expanded, achieving the production of 4000 Series S83 engines and the new 2000 Series engine and continuing to provide power support for China’s oil & gas fields and power generation markets.
The latest engine, the mtu Series 2000 G06, is designed for mission-critical applications such as main backup power for data centers, industrial parks, power stations, rental and infrastructure. It is designed to offer high power density, enhanced fuel efficiency and optimized reliability.
Tobias Ostermaier, president of the Stationary Power Solutions division at Rolls-Royce Power Systems, who attended the launch ceremony, stated: “The newly produced mtu Series 2000 engines are the latest generation of high-performance diesel engines manufactured locally in China, adhering to the same production standards as those made in Germany. At the same time, they will be supported by our local aftersales team, significantly improving response efficiency and delivering a lower total cost of ownership for our customers.”
As part of the launch ceremony, Rolls-Royce signed agreements with more than 10 power generation OEMs covering various applications, including mobile power trucks, power rental, building standby and engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) projects.
“These innovative engines will not only play a vital role in domestic applications such as data centers, power rental, mobile power truck, mining bidding and industrial infrastructure, but will also serve overseas projects, providing reliable power solutions to neighboring regions,” said Amy Zhou, general manager of Rolls-Royce Power Systems Greater China.
Zhou went on to describe the engines as yet another successful outcome of the company’s collaboration with Yuchai, adding, “We look forward to further stimulating market demand and significantly expanding our market share with these products.”
