TMC Supplying Marine Compressor Systems For LPG Carries
13 February 2020
Chinese shipbuilder Jiangnan Shipyard Group has contracted TMC Compressors of the Seas to supply a complete marine compressed air system for two liquefied natural gas (LPG) carriers being built for Belgian shipowner Exmar.
TMC will supply its Smart Air compressors to the vessel. TMC’s Smart Air compressors offer up to 50% energy saving compared to conventional compressors and reflects the environmental profile of the LPG carriers, TMC said.
The 86 000 m³ gas carriers, to be fuelled by LPG, are constructed at Shanghai’s Jiangnan Shipyard. The VLGC Jiangnan H2667 and VLGC Jiangnan H2668 are scheduled for delivery in the second and third quarter of 2021, respectively.
TMC’s scope of work is to supply a complete marine compressed air system to each of the two vessels, consisting of two Smart Air compressors for service air and two adsorption dryers for control air. TMC has not disclosed the value of its contract.
“As a marine fuel, LPG has excellent clean handling properties and low emissions to air,” said Hans Petter Tanum, TMC’s director of sales and business development.
“Hence, these newbuild vessels are great examples of how the shipping industry can become greener. Our contribution to the vessels is compressors with low energy consumption and associated fuel usage and emission levels.”
Once delivered, the two LPG carriers will be deployed for Exmar’s LPG transportation commitments for Norwegian energy giant Equinor.
TMC is a leading supplier of compressed air systems for marine and offshore use. The company is headquartered in Oslo, Norway.
