Truck Slowdown Leads To Daimler Trucks Layoff

As a result of lagging truck sales, Daimler Trucks North America, the parent company of Freightliner and Western Star, said it will lay off 1240 employees at plants in the U.S. and Mexico.
The largest layoffs will occur at the company’s two North Carolina plants, where 550 will be idled at the Cleveland assembly facility and 700 at the Mount Holly medium-duty plant. Other cutback will occur at facilities in Portland, Ore., and Santiago, Mexico.
Daimler said that it expects the cuts to be temporary and “workers will be recalled when production is able to sustain a higher build rate.”
