Balfour Beatty expert to discuss autonomous haulers used on UK’s A14 project at online event

At the upcoming Construction Technology Summit on May 11, Balfour Beatty’s Peter Lavery will describe how autonomous equipment was used on the UK’s A14 road project.

The head of digital transformation for highways will also talk at the online event about how his company brought together different technologies and experiences on that project, to drive towards further automation in construction.

He will highlight some of the limitations identified during that process and the critical areas that still need to be addressed before achieving the desired end state of an autonomous construction vehicle.

Peter Lavery, head of digital transformation for Highways with Balfour Beatty

Lavery says, “The key for us as a consumer of technologies will be our ability to work with consistent data standards across vendors to ensure that we can combine different technologies across our roadmap to deliver an autonomous state.”

With a background in innovation and technology consultancy, Lavery has been instrumental in transforming Balfour Beatty’s IT environment, working across the group to define its digital strategy and build a ‘site of the future’ approach. In this way, his aim is to develop and scale opportunities across the digital and innovation arenas.

He says his current focus is accelerating the digital programme within Balfour Beatty’s Highways business, ensuring that it is constantly evolving and taking the best examples of innovation to every project.

The event will start at 9am (USA: CST); 3pm (UK:BST); 4pm (EU: CET)
