German battery cell specialist CustomCells and Austrian battery system designer Kreisel Electric are set to collaborate on development of two new battery cell designs.

In the first instance, the two companies will look to develop a cell with an ‘extremely high energy density’. The second will feature ‘an optimised cost structure’.

The project will take into account global supply chain considerations, material availability, technical and commercial risks, mass production considerations, and the Technology Readiness Level.

For its part, CustomCells will plan to forecast the electrochemical performance, while also assessing the electrochemical and thermal stability of the cell designs.

“The goal of this collaboration is, of course, to identify the best and most optimal cell for future applications. At the same time, we aim to positively influence cost structures and manufacturing strategies,” said Philipp Kreisel, founder and MD at Kreisel Electric.

Dr. Dirk Abendroth, CEO of CustomCells, added: “The partnership with Kreisel once again allows us to demonstrate the adaptability and flexibility of CustomCells. Tailored solutions in development and manufacturing are our domain.”

Kreisel is part of John Deere and specialises in development and manufacturing of high-performance batteries for off-highway and marine applications.
