Carraro has introduced its ‘THE’ (Transmission Hydrostatic Electric) transmission for the off-highway machine market.

The Italian company’s THE transmission allows vehicle and machine manufacturers to use either a hydromatic or electric drivetrain with the related transmission type, without having to make design changes to the chassis or driveline layout.

The transmission is said to be highly configurable, which is supported by the availability of two versions: a synchronised two-speed or two-speed powershift functionality. Options include an emergency brake and 4WD SAHR module disconnect.

Other features include a motors ranging from 80 to 210 cc, DIN 1410 or End Yoke 1410/1480 output interfaces, and flanged to axle, remote and vertical/horizontal vehicle mounting interfaces.

A spokesperson for Carraro said: “This range of new products has been developed to better meet the modern needs of our customers through a special feature that allows switching between hydrostatic and electric applications.

“The aim behind this concept is to provide vehicle manufacturers with a solution that enables them to equip a vehicle with either a hydrostatic or electric version, without needing to make changes to the chassis or driveline layout.”

The THE transmission is particularly suited for use in telescopic handlers, backhoe loaders, compact and small wheel loaders and wheeled excavators.
