Leica Geosystems unveils AI-powered safety solution for construction vehicles

Leica Geosystems, part of Hexagon, has launched the Leica Xsight360, a new safety awareness solution designed to enhance hazard detection and operator awareness on construction sites.

Powered by Presien, the system integrates advanced artificial intelligence to reduce the risk of accidents involving heavy machinery.

The Xsight360 system employs a network of up to six cameras to provide 360-degree coverage around construction vehicles.

Its AI-powered visual models, specifically trained for the demands of heavy construction operations, identify nearby people, vehicles, and objects such as construction cones. When a potential hazard is detected, operators are alerted through audible warnings and visual cues, indicating both the location and proximity of the threat to enable timely evasive action.

At the core of the system is the Leica CRS360 AI processor, running Presien’s most advanced model to date. The model draws on more than 700,000 hours of real-world construction site data to deliver low-latency alerts while minimising false alarms.

According to Leica Geosystems, this technology significantly reduces blind spots, helping operators maintain situational awareness without frequent interruptions.

Beyond immediate on-site benefits, Xsight360 connects to a cloud-based platform that transmits video and alert data for further analysis. The cloud system leverages agentic AI to produce safety reports, dashboards, and safety indexes within minutes. These outputs support Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) managers by highlighting safety trends, identifying potential risks, and benchmarking site performance against international, national, or site-specific safety standards.

Leica Geosystems highlights that, in addition to improving safety, the Xsight360 solution offers ease of use and supports efforts to minimise incident-related project delays and associated costs. By delivering actionable insights and enhancing real-time hazard detection, the technology aims to set a new standard in construction site safety.

“Partnering with a global innovator like Leica Geosystems marks a significant step in our mission to bring AI to every machine. We’re proud to collaborate on a solution that empowers site teams and safety leaders to better protect people on the ground. Backed by years of industry experience, our tailored AI technology addresses the unique challenges of construction environments, delivering safety and productivity to the highest standards,” says Mark Richards, chief executive officer at Presien.
