Yanmar maritime fuel cell wins Red Dot Design Award

Yanmar Holdings Co., Ltd. announced that its group company, Yanmar Power Technology Co., Ltd., has been awarded in the product design category of the prestigious Red Dot Design Award 2025 for its maritime hydrogen fuel cell system, the GH240FC. Commercialized in 2023, the unit was developed for zero-emission passenger shipping.

The Red Dot Design Award evaluates entries across three categories: product design, brands & communication design and design concepts. The product design category is among the largest and most competitive globally. Winners are selected by an international panel of design experts who judge entries based on innovation, functionality and sustainability.

According to a statement issued by the judges: “The GH240FC fuel cell system provides emission-free, safe and comfortable marine propulsion and auxiliary power supply technology and impresses with its cohesive design concept.”

The GH240FC features a modular, scalable design that reduces vibrations, noise and odors for enhanced onboard comfort. It has a streamlined, compact form that minimizes external protrusions, enhancing aesthetic appeal and enabling ease of installation and maintenance.

The unit uses “Yanmar Premium Red,” the company’s brand color, with a bold “H2” mark on the front that communicates its role within the sector of clean propulsion technology.

The GH240FC also won a Good Design Award in 2024.
