Autocar LLC, a specialized severe-duty vocational vehicle manufacturer, has delivered its first E-ACTT battery-electric terminal tractor to Old Dominion Freight Line, a leading North American less-than-truckload (LTL) motor carrier. Announced in 2021, the inaugural production model E-ACTT was delivered to Old Dominion Freight Line’s facility in Rialto, Calif., to allow for driver orientation prior to deployment in the field.

“We are excited to deliver our first production unit of the E-ACTT and begin operator orientation with Old Dominion Freight Line team members on Autocar’s first electric truck. Our engineers and technicians have designed and built a terminal tractor that offers the same reliability and durability as its diesel counterpart without a carbon footprint. We are excited to see it in use,” said Mark Aubry, president, terminal tractor division, Autocar.

The all-electric yard truck is purpose-built for commercial or industrial applications, including spotting trailers and containers at distribution centers, warehouse/trucking yards, industrial operations, distribution centers, warehouses, intermodal/rail terminals and port terminals. Its 210-kWh modular battery pack can last up to 22 hours on a single full charge. The vehicle utilizes liquid-cooled/heated batteries and industry standard CCS-1-compliant DC fast charging with charging up to 150 kW.

With an advanced monitoring and telematics system, the E-ACTT can communicate maintenance and repair needs to the fleet to help improve efficiency and uptime. Features include a cradle design for ease of maintenance, auto shutdown, auto shift to neutral, cab-mounted charge status indicators and more.

“Old Dominion is looking into the future of electrification in our fleet and understanding the benefits of a battery-powered switcher,” said Jim Raynor, vice president of equipment and maintenance for Old Dominion Freight Line. “We’re excited to test the performance of the E-ACTT in our daily LTL operations at our Rialto, Calif., service center. We appreciate Autocar’s partnership, and we’re honored to take delivery of their first E-ACTT.”
