Fairbanks Morse Wins Flood Control Contract

Fairbanks Morse was awarded a contract by South Florida Water Management District to upgrade six opposed-piston engines, install new controls and complete emissions upgrades to adhere to RICE NESHAP requirements.

The work is being done at the Pump Station S-5A location in Palm Beach County.

 The South Florida Water Management District is a regional governmental agency that provides flood control, water quality management, and ecosystem restoration for 16 counties in central and southern Florida.  It is the largest water management district in the state, managing water needs for 7.7 million residents.

 “Fairbanks Morse is excited to provide South Florida Water Management a solution for their opposed-piston engines allowing them to extend and enhance the performance of this critical pumping station,” said Matt Wisniewski, Fairbanks Morse director of Services and Solutions.

 Working in collaboration with South Florida Water Management District and their general contractor, PC Construction Co., Fairbanks Morse will be providing overhauls to the FME opposed-piston (OP) brand engine, auxiliary equipment and automated engine pump controls. Fairbanks Morse will provide this customized solution so that South Florida Water Management District can provide drainage to 170 square mi. of land year round and at times urban and environmental water supply.

 There will be six separate installations as each engine is removed and replaced after overhaul. Pump Station S-5A will ultimately be re-commissioned with upgraded controls and engine system auxiliary equipment for the South Florida Water Management District by 2020.
