First orders for Volta Zero electric truck

06 February 2023

Volta Trucks, the Sweden-based manufacturer of full-electric commercial vehicles, announced more than €85 million of anticipated revenues from 300 confirmed orders of its 16-tonne Volta Zero full-electric truck for delivery in 2023.

The Volta Zero 16-tonne medium-duty truck for local distribution was launched in late 2020; the first trucks are expected to roll off the assembly line of the contract manufacturing plant in Steyr, Austria, in the early second quarter 2023.

According to Volta Trucks the plant is ready to meet strong customer demand for its full-electric medium duty urban delivery truck.

Volta Trucks already communicated pre-orders of 6500 trucks from all markets and for all models including those to be launched in future years. The company plans to launch series production of 16- and 18-tonne trucks versions in 2023 and by 2025 expects to produce 22 500 vehicles per year and launch 7.5- and 12-ton vehicle types in Europe.

In the USA the company will initially introduce a Pilot Fleet of Class 7 trucks in mid-2023 to be evaluated by US customers. Production vehicles should roll off the assembly in 2024/25. The Class 7 Volta Zero introduction will be closely followed by Class 5 and Class 6 trucks in 2024/2025.

“Volta Trucks has made important progress in the first few weeks of 2023, confirming more than 300 customer truck orders for the first vehicles off our production line in Austria. This covers a meaningful portion of our 2023 production targets, before customers have pilot tested the vehicles. This is a major achievement and demonstrates the compelling features of the Volta Zero and the trust that our customers have in our ability to deliver,” said Essa Al-Saleh, CEO of Volta Trucks.

The company has also established a network of ‘Volta Trucks Hub’ service and maintenance facilities in its launch markets, with the first two already announced in Bonneuil-sur-Marne, to the south of Paris, France, and in Tottenham, London, UK.
