Hanshin Diesel plans methanol engine

Premium Content

Japanese engine maker moved into gaseous-fueled engines in 2018

Hanshin Diesel, which began producing diesel engines for marine applications in 1929, didn’t get into gaseous-fueled engines until 2018 when it added its G30 engine.

Now the company expects to introduce a methanol-ready engine in 2024.

The methanol engine development was noted during a presentation on the basic design concept and major performance of the company’s gaseous-fueled engine at CIMAC Congress in Busan, South Korea.

Only the combustion chamber and fuel system are modified, keeping the main construction unchanged.

Hanshin completed G30 gas engine to meet global environmental requirements. This gas engine has a low pressure and pre-mixed gas system, and can be operated with gas only from engine start to normal operation. The combustion chamber is designed with two prechambers accompanying the moderate swirl similar to two stroke engines.
