As well as presenting its full range of Stage 5 engines, Perkins is showing, for the first time, three hybrid engines.

Perkins said it has invested significantly in hybrid engine research and development projects over recent years and said that at Bauma it features “a range of technologies that will add real value to OEMs as they design the next generation of off-highway machines.”

Matt Coleman, Perkins’ product director, said:“For construction machines, it’s not sufficient to simply carry over hybrid or electric technologies from other sectors such as truck, automobiles or marine. The duty cycles, operating conditions and packaging constraints for off-highway machines drive the need for specific configurations that are highly customised to the individual application.”

As well as the hybrid-electric, hybrid-mechanical and hybrid-hydraulic technologies on show, Perkins is displaying a selection of engines meeting Stage 5 emissions standards.

These range from the 1.7 L mechanical 400 Series at 18.9 kW, the new Perkins Syncro 3.6 L offering 100 kW, a four-cylinder 1200 Series designed for the electric power market and delivering 120 kVA and meeting Stage 5 emission standards for mobile generators.

At the larger end of the range, the 1700 Series is a six-cylinder, 9.3 L engine offering 340 kW while the 12.5 L 2400 Series is shown for the first time offering 430 kW and 2634 Nm of torque. The company is also presenting future technologies, aftermarket services and digital solutions and have a dedicated parts and service stand.
