Hydroniq Coolers wins supply agreement

Norwegian technology supplier Hydroniq Coolers has entered into agreements to supply the marine cooling system to 13 tugboats that are destined for PSA Marine in Singapore.

Marine cooling systems are utilized to reduce temperatures in the ship’s engines and other auxiliary systems through use of seawater to avoid overheating of the engine and other critical systems. Hydroniq Coolers will supply two of its Pleat seawater coolers to each of the 13 newbuild tugboats.

Hydroniq Coolers will supply the coolers under a contract with Sojitz Machinery Corporation in Japan, which in turn is a subcontractor to the engine supplier for the 13 vessels. Hydroniq Coolers has not disclosed the value of the contract.

“We have delivered our Pleat seawater cooler to multiple tugboats that PSA Marine are operating. In fact, PSA Marine was the first company to ever test our Pleat seawater cooler. We are delighted to be chosen as supplier to these 13 tugboats through our cooperation with Sojitz Machinery Corporation,” says Magnar Kvalheim, sales manager at Hydroniq Coolers.

PSA Marine is a leading marine services provider, including towage and pilotage, with flagship operations in Singapore. With modern fleet of more than 70 tugs, PSA Marine has operations in Peru, Europe, Bangladesh, China (including Hong Kong and Taiwan), Oman, and Southeast Asia.

The Pleat is a flexible heat exchange solution delivered in a variety of sizes for central cooling, auxiliary, and various combinations of engine cooling. It has a design pressure of 6 bars and design temperature of 0-95°C. The Pleat has long service intervals and is very easy to dismantle, clean and assemble for maintenance, the company said. This allows the vessel crew to easily clean the cooling system while at sea.

Recently, Hydroniq Coolers launched an online configurator that allows ship designers, shipyards and shipowners to identify the optimal seawater cooling system configuration for their specific vessel.

“It is an easily accessible online tool that enables users to quickly identify the most optimal cooling system for their specific vessel requirements. It helps to find the required cooling capacity solution with the lowest possible capex and opex,” says Inge Bøen, managing director of HydroniqCoolers.

Hydroniq Coolers delivers marine cooling solutions to vessels that operate within offshore, shipping, cruise, passenger transport, fishery and fish farming. Shipowners, yards and ship designers are among the company’s customers and cooperation partners.
