Kubota, Liebherr win awards for new wheeled excavators

Kubota Corporation and the Liebherr Group have been recognised twice for the design of the partners’ new wheeled excavators.

The two machines won the IF Design award and also the Red Dot: Best of the Best award.

The IF Design awards has been held for more than 70 years. It recognizes outstanding design and celebrates designers which challenge convention and rethink systems.

The Red Dot Design award, which also has been running for more than 70 years, identifies excellence in product design.

Winners of these awards were the new Kubota KW095 nine-tonne and KW115 11-tonne models. These are manufactured in cooperation with Liebherr at the company’s site Kirchdorf an der Iller, Germany.

The machines are also marketed by Liebherr as the A909 Compact and 911 Compact. All machines feature the Kubota V3800 3.8-liter four-cylinder turbodiesel engine which is Stage 5 compliant.

The wheeled excavators were given the awards for how they combine powerful technology in a limited space using a holistic approach to design.

This is the first time the partners have collaborated to build machines. It is the first time Liebherr has offered wheeled excavators in this class, while wheeled excavators are wholly new to Kubota.

First examples of the Kubota KW095 and KW115 are set to be available to customers before the end of the year.
