New app monitors Volvo electric construction equipment
31 May 2022

An easy-to-use app from Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) enables operators and fleet managers to remotely check the charge and location of their Volvo electric machines, as well as receive alerts on their smartphone, tablet and laptop.
The app, called EMMA (Electric Machine Management Application), is designed to allow users to see at a glance, and from any location, each machine’s charging status, remaining battery level, estimated working hours available and geographic location, enabling fleet managers to proactively plan charging and manage machine availability.

“Electric machines have opened up the possibility for a cleaner, smarter and more sustainable work environment, but they also require a shift in our way of working,” stated Toni Hagelberg, head of Sustainable Power at Volvo CE, in the announcement of the app. “EMMA ensures customers have real-time information at their fingertips in an easily accessible format, leaving them with the confidence that they have the power they need to get the job done.”
Customizable alerts can also be set to notify the user/operator when the battery charge reaches a certain point – such as when the charge status is high enough to continue work – and reminders can be sent to charge the machine when remaining power drops below a predefined level.
EMMA has been designed to support the operation of any current Volvo CE electric machines as well as any upcoming additions to its portfolio. Current models supported include the ECR25 Electric compact excavator and L25 Electric compact wheel loader, introduced in 2019, and the ECR18 Electric and EC18 Electric excavators and L20 Electric wheel loader, which were announced last year and just recently made available for order in North America.
Customers of any of the current electric models can contact their local Volvo CE dealer to get registered to use the app.
