Omni’s new electric drive for axles
07 May 2021
Global powertrain component specialist Omni Powertrain Technologies has introduced a new electrified drive system developed for driven axle applications. The new system combines Omni’s F12L gearbox with its tandem Magelec M27D motors for commercial vehicles, terminal tractors and railcar mover applications.
Gear ratios available with the single speed F12L gearbox are 1:1, 2:1, 2.97:1 and 3.94:1. The gearbox is rated for a maximum input torque of 885 lb. ft. (1200 Nm) and has can deliver a maximum output torque up to 3296 lb. ft. (4470 Nm). It can accommodate input speeds up to 7500 rpm and an output flange is available as an option, the company said.
The M27D motor is a high voltage axial flux design capable of delivering 257 hp (192 kW) continuous power at 600 V, Omni said, with a peak intermittent torque rating of at 855 lb. ft. (1160 Nm). It is cooled with a water-ethylene glycol mix and conforms to international standard IEC 60034.
The new electric drive is currently being field tested in terminal tractor. Omni said it is also in development of a two-speed version.
