Oshkosh Defense starts DXPV prototype production

Oshkosh Defense Europe B.V. together with Oshkosh Defense, LLC, an Oshkosh Corporation business, announced the start of production of the first Dutch Expeditionary Patrol Vehicle (DXPV) prototype (“Kaaiman”) for the Netherlands Ministry of Defence (MoD) as part of a150-unit order agreement signed in June 2025.

An unarmored variant of the four-wheel-drive Oshkosh Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV), the DXPV incorporates customer-informed enhancements designed to address evolving expeditionary and littoral mission requirements. These include improved mobility, corrosion protection optimized for maritime environments, modular protection options, environmental upgrades, integrated mission systems and suspension improvements that increase off-road performance and operational flexibility.

The DPXPV is being built on an active JLTV production line, which the company said enables it to rapidly translate evolving mission requirements into advanced, production-ready capabilities for U.S. and allied customers.

“Production readiness matters,” stated Jeff Heggemeier, vice president and general manager at Oshkosh Defense. “Because we’re building on a mature platform from an active production line, we can move from concept to prototype much faster than traditional vehicle development. That allows us to deliver capability quickly while maintaining the quality and reliability our customers expect.”

The same production operations also support the manufacture of JLTV-based Counter-Unmanned Aircraft System (C-UAS) vehicles to meet an urgent customer need.

“The start of DXPV prototype production is an important step in delivering next-generation capability to the Netherlands,” Heggemeier said. “Just as importantly, it demonstrates the strength of an active production base and our ability to continuously evolve proven vehicle technologies to address the changing needs of our customers and their missions.”
