BYD reports production of 150,000th ‘new energy truck

BYD has reported it has now produced 150,000 ‘new energy’ trucks at the company plant in Huai’an, China.

The landmark was reached as a Q3 battery-electric truck tractor rolled off the assembly line.

BYD started its truck development program back in 2012. The company now produces full battery-electric and hybrid models for light- and heavy-duty applications.

The Q3 uses a maximum 600 kWh li-iron phosphate (LFP) Blade battery packs which deliver a maximum range around 325 km (202 miles) with a full load.

The model uses a ‘dual gun’ recharging format which can deliver a 20 to 80% charge in approx. 30 minutes. The Q3 does not offer a battery-swapping system.

The 6x4 drive is available with a range of motor configurations. The 520 kW variant uses two 260 kW motors.

Using BYD’s semiconductor chips with a six-in-one high-voltage electric control system, the Q3 has a peak operating efficiency of 99%.

At IAA Transportation 2026 in Hanover, Germany, BYD presented a zero-carbon logistics solution which incorporates charging, fleet management and vehicle maintenance. The program is intended to incentivize the switch to battery-electric heavy-duty trucks.

BYD is currently finishing construction of a €4 billion passenger vehicle plant in Szeged, Hungary. While other sites are also under consideration, it’s possible that the new plant will later be used for semi-knocked down (SKD) assembly of trucks to avoid any related China-Europe import tariffs.
