Wärtsilä announced it will support the Indian company Arkay Energy (Rameswarm) Ltd. through a renewed operations and maintenance agreement designed to help the company reach higher electrical output and productivity at its power plant in a remote and developing area.

The 5-year agreement covers the full operation and maintenance of the Arkay Energy power plant which runs on natural gas, enhancing the installation’s reliability and efficiency throughout its lifecycle.

“The Arkay Energy plant is located in a remote location. We support Arkay Energy by providing them with our quality services which include complete operations and maintenance at the site and remote monitoring support from our Chennai Office. This helps the customer achieve the desired reliability and efficiency, while meeting the expectations of all stakeholders, including their end-customers, authorities and the local Community,” said James Rajan, Wärtsilä’s director of Services Unit, South Asia.

The 150 MW base power plant is located at Ramanathapuram, Tamil Nadu, in southern India. Wärtsilä’s services include scheduled and unscheduled maintenance of the plant’s 16 Wärtsilä 34SG engines running on gas, auxiliaries, waste heat recovery boilers and steam turbine as well as a 110 KV switchyard. The scope also includes manpower services, spare parts and consumables.

Arkay Energy (Rameswarm) is a subsidiary of Ind-Barath Power Infra Limited (IBPIL) holding company. Power from the Arkay Energy plant is exported to customers in the state of Tamil Nadu through the Tamilnadu Grid.

“We are very happy to extend our agreement with Wärtsilä for another five years. As a long-term partner, Wärtsilä can provide us lifecycle services with smooth transition of technology and help us avoid surprises,” said Rajasekhara Rao, president, Operations at Arkay Energy.
