Renault has unveiled the first of its new range of electric Trafic light commercial vehicles at the IAA Transportation show in Hanover, Germany.

The new Trafic Van E-Tech is a customizable ‘software-defined van’ that is said to cut total cost of ownership while improving electrical efficiency.

Based on the RGEV medium van platform, the new model features an 800 V electrical system. The 81 kWh battery pack offers a range of about 470 km (WLTP), but is reported to offer greater distance potential when operated only in urban settings.

Range is supported by an exterior design which offers a 6% improvement in drag-reducing aerodynamics.

Carbon footprint of the E-Tech is said to be 45% less than that of an equivalent diesel model.

To further support necessary customer flexibility, the Trafic E-Tech has a range of three conversion levels intended to suit the needs of the customer.

Also, as part of the Uptimize system, an in-vehicle app can apply the fleet manager’s required efficiency, performance and safety settings to selected vehicles, with the intention of improving range and operation.

The panel van version of the Trafic E-Tech will be available by the end of 2026. A chassis cab and crew cab versions will be added in 2027.

Renault will assemble the new E-Tech range at the plant in Sandouville, France, a location which already features low-carbon production technologies.
